DE-CIX in 2025

AI, Cloud and the Internet: DE-CIX Continues to Expand Its Global Leadership

DE-CIX was able to maintain and expand its role as the world’s leading Internet Exchange operator in the 2025 financial year. As a result, more and more ISPs, cloud and AI providers, companies and networks are aligning their digital infrastructure with DE-CIX’s neutral ecosystem – all around the globe:

  • More than 4,300 networks were connected to the DE-CIX platform by the end of 2025 – an increase of 25 per cent compared with the previous year.
  • Connected customer bandwidth totalled 220 terabits – an increase of 40 per cent.
  • In total, all DE-CIX Internet Exchanges exchanged 79 exabytes of data traffic in the financial year – 16 per cent more than in 2024 and 147 per cent more than five years ago.
  • Revenue across all business units rose by 3.3 per cent worldwide to a total of 70.9 million Euro.

An especially high number of networks connected to DE-CIX in emerging markets. Among the fastest-growing locations are the recently established Internet Exchanges DE-CIX Jakarta, IRAQ-IXP powered by DE-CIX, and the new platforms in Latin America – DE-CIX Mexico, DE-CIX São Paulo and DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro.

However, established locations also performed well: The distributed ASEAN platform, DE-CIX Mumbai, DE-CIX Delhi and DE-CIX Chicago each saw double-digit growth in terms of network connections. A similar trend was seen in demand for bandwidth in more mature markets: Frankfurt, Munich, New York, Dallas, Madrid, Marseille and Portugal achieved growth rates of up to two or three digits in some cases.

Regional Highlights at a Glance

In its home market of Europe, DE-CIX has been setting the technological course for the future of the global ecosystem for over 30 years. In 2025, this included innovations such as:

Across the entire continent, the number of booked 400-GE access ports has doubled. With a data volume of just under 48 exabytes per year and nearly 1,100 connected networks, DE-CIX Frankfurt is not only one of the world’s largest Internet Exchanges, but also the central data hub in the Digital Capital of the world. The study “Frankfurt – The Digital Capital”, presented by DE-CIX to mark its 30th anniversary, traces how Frankfurt am Main, in Germany, has developed into the world’s leading interconnection hub.

In Southern Europe, DE-CIX is now present in five markets (Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Marseille and Palermo). The infrastructure is spread across 17 data centres with over 500 network connections. The region is increasingly developing into an intercontinental bridgehead that seamlessly integrates transatlantic and pan-European routes. This was the focus of the second edition of Atlantic Convergence in Lisbon – the industry conference at the crossroads of the continents had been initiated by DE-CIX the previous year.

30 years of DE-CIX: DE-CIX celebrated its anniversary in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) this summer.

From AI applications to cloud deployments – DE-CIX is gearing its North American ecosystem for the future. The IXs in New York and Dallas have been offering 400 GE access since the start of the fiscal year. The technology was already available from the outset at the new Internet Exchanges in Latin America. Since 2025, the Brazilian and Mexican platforms have been delivering high-performance interconnection to Mexico City, Querétaro, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Furthermore, DE-CIX has connected the locations New York–São Paulo and Mexico–Dallas sites via north-south data corridors and integrated them into a seamless, cross-border IX mesh.

In Turkey, DE-CIX Istanbul celebrated its tenth anniversary. In 2025, the IX expanded the regional cloud ecosystem and introduced the country’s first AWS Cloud On-Ramp. Peak traffic exceeded 500 gigabits per second for the first time during the year. The situation was no different in the Middle East, where the UAE-IX powered by DE-CIX leads the market with peak traffic of more than 1 terabit per second. Together with Ooredoo, the Doha IX powered by DE-CIX was launched as Qatar’s first commercial Internet Exchange. Furthermore, in 2025, e& and DE-CIX agreed to operate SmartHub IX as a DE-CIX-as-a-Service Internet Exchange.

India remains the largest and fastest-growing APAC market for DE-CIX. With six Internet Exchanges already in place, the subcontinent is developing into a scalable interconnection hub that connects regional sovereign cloud offerings and interconnects routes to the Middle East. A particular highlight: Starlink joined the platform in 2025. In Indonesia, DE-CIX Jakarta surpassed the 150-network mark.

At the same time, the distributed ASEAN interconnection platform grew, achieving peak data throughput of more than 400 gigabits per second. The rising demand for high-capacity connections was also reflected at DE-CIX Singapore: In the past financial year, DE-CIX also upgraded the IX to 400 GE technology.

Party to mark the 10th anniversary of DE-CIX Istanbul in autumn 2025.
