In 2025, the environment surrounding EuroCloud Deutschland was characterised by a high degree of dynamism. The global cloud market grew once again by more than 20 per cent. As in the three preceding years, this development was driven primarily by AI-specific services. With the increasing use of artificial intelligence, data\u2019s strategic importance is growing. At the same time, fundamental questions are coming into sharper focus: Who controls this data? Who operates the underlying infrastructure? And how are the resulting dependencies developing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In light of these developments, the debate on digital sovereignty gained further prominence. Topics such as resilience, control over data and infrastructure, and technological autonomy were discussed more intensively \u2013 particularly against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions and regulatory developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EuroCloud Deutschland has been following this discussion for several years. In the reporting year, too, the association used various formats to promote exchange between member companies and develop positions. For instance, an executive roundtable entitled \u201cThe Cloud and Europe\u2019s Digital Resilience\u201d took place in Mainz in early May \u2013 in the run-up to eco Association\u2019s Data Centre Expert Summit 2025. Around 15 decision-makers from member companies took part. A central topic of discussion was the question of how freedom of choice and competition in the European cloud market can be strengthened.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

These topics were also addressed at the EuroCloud Summit 2025, which took place on 24 September in Dortmund. The event was held under the motto \u201cPerspectives for a Resilient Future\u201d. During the summit, the association presented the EuroCloud Pulse Check 2025. This was the fifth edition of the study, which this year focused, among other things, on the role of \u201csuperscalers\u201d \u2013 that is, the larger European providers \u2013 in the cloud market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025 was also a year of significant regulatory developments. Several European legislative acts directly affecting the cloud economy came into force. These include, in particular, the AI Act, whose provisions are being implemented in stages (the first came into force on 2 February 2025 and 2 August 2025 respectively), and the Data Act, which, amongst other things, facilitates switching between cloud providers (\u201ccloud switching\u201d) and has been in force since 12 September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the European NIS2 cybersecurity directive was transposed into German law on 6 December 2025. It significantly expands the scope of regulated companies. Among other things, cloud providers and managed service providers are classified as important or particularly important entities, depending on their size and significance, and must implement corresponding security measures. EuroCloud Deutschland addressed these legislative acts in various formats during the reporting year. These included webinars and the Cloud Legal Meet-up, a format in which Dr Jens Eckhardt, an IT specialist lawyer and member of the EuroCloud Board, provided updates on current legal developments once a quarter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Two in-person events on the AI Act were also held in Berlin and Essen. They were held under the heading \u201cAI Act \u2013 What are we actually talking about?\u201d. Dr Eckhardt also spoke at these events. In addition, the association published a 30-page handout with the same title, summarising the key provisions of the regulation and its implications for companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aforementioned EuroCloud Summit has now established itself as a fixture, offering the association\u2019s various target groups a shared networking platform. During the reporting year, adesso as a Service hosted the Cloud Community in Dortmund. Around 90 member representatives attended the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit also announced the winners of the EuroCloud Awards. There were two winners in the \u201cBest Cooperation Project\u201d category. The consortia comprising HKN, enclaive and ScaleUp Technologies, as well as netgo and WIIT, each received the same number of votes. adacor Hosting won the award for \u201cHuman Empowerment\u201d. The Industry Fusion Foundation\u2019s Xana-AI app was recognised as the best AI project. By jury vote, Deepshore was honoured as \u201cEuroCloud Member of the Year\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EuroCloud Deutschland Annual General Meeting took place immediately prior to the summit. During this meeting, Silke Kanes was newly appointed to the Board. The technology and transformation consultant was nominated to the Board by the eco Association, of which she has been a member of the Board since August 2025. Within the Board, she will be responsible for software, corporate culture and diversity. The Board now comprises six members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By expanding the Board, the association is also responding to developments in the cloud market. In the software sector in particular, there\u2019s a growing shift away from the traditional licensing model towards Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings. Forecasts continue to predict high growth rates for the German SaaS market. At the same time, cloud-based software offerings play a key role in integrating new AI functions into applications.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Against this backdrop, in 2025 the Board examined in greater depth the question of how software providers could be more closely involved in the association\u2019s work. At a strategy meeting on 20\/11\/2025 in Cologne, it was decided to develop a dedicated initiative for this purpose. The target group comprises software manufacturers that already operate SaaS offerings or are undergoing a corresponding transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This discussion gave rise to the \u201cEuroCloud Software Innovators Circle\u201d. The initiative aims to connect software companies with players in the Internet and cloud economy and to promote dialogue on topics such as cloud infrastructure, operations, and security and compliance issues. The initiative was launched on 16\/04\/2026 at the Cologne Office of the eco Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to software and SaaS companies, EuroCloud 2025 placed greater emphasis on other target groups. These include, in particular, system integrators, whose business models are also changing due to the increasing use of the cloud. To promote dialogue on current challenges, the workshop format \u201cSystemhaus Dialog 2030 \u2013 Food for thought on the future of the IT services business\u201d was launched. The first events took place between April and June 2025 in Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Paderborn. This was followed in September by a special edition on the topic of Managed Security Services as part of the Internet Security Days 2025 at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. The series continued in April 2026 with workshops in H\u00fcrth and Munich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the industrial use of cloud technologies is increasingly coming into focus. In areas such as cloud manufacturing or federated data spaces, many companies see key building blocks for the digitalisation of the manufacturing industry. Against this backdrop, EuroCloud Deutschland agreed a partnership in September 2025 with the Industry Fusion Foundation (IFF), which is committed to the digitalisation of SMEs in the mechanical engineering sector in Europe. The association also participated in the IFF\u2019s AI Open Source Summit 2025, which took place on 30 October in Bad W\u00f6rishofen. EuroCloud Board member Prof. Dr Norbert Pohlmann delivered a keynote speech on the security and trust mechanisms of data rooms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In addition, EuroCloud showcased itself at industry events such as the Service Provider Summit, the cloud native conference and the CCX Cloud Computing Conference \u2013 all organised by the Vogel IT Academy and held in May at Petersberg near Bonn and in Eppstein (Taunus) respectively \u2013 as well as at Cloud & AI Infrastructure Frankfurt (as part of Tech Show 2025) in June. As part of the Frankfurt trade fair, two EuroCloud panels took place once again, both of which were comprised entirely of member companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the reporting year, the membership base also continued to grow. A total of 19 companies joined the cloud association: dacoso, Dockland Media Group, FlowCutter, G&L Gei\u00dfend\u00f6rfer & Leschinsky, iits Consulting, NEXOWARE, Novar (a Honeywell Company), Polarise, q.beyond, Securance-iAP, Vertiv, WIIT, Yorizon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
